REV. MARIE HO-LAM
After months of suffering, our dear friend and colleague, Rev. Marie Ho-Lam went to be with the Lord on the morning of June 27, 2011. A faithful servant of the Gospel of Jesus Christ, Rev. Ho-Lam served in many capacities at the Kwun Tong Swatow Baptist Church in Kowloon, Hong Kong, from 1976-1980, a church supported by the American Baptist Churches, USA. After immigrating to New York in 1980, she worked tirelessly with her husband, Rev. Henry Lam, while he was serving as Pastor of the Chinese Christian Church of Queens and she was serving at the Chinese Missionary Baptist Church in Chinatown, New York where she was ordained as an American Baptist Minister in 1988. When her husband became ill, Rev. Ho-Lam took over the leadership of the Chinese Christian Church of Queens. She served there for over two decades before her "retirement" five years ago. Rev. Marie Ho-Lam was not only a gifted leader; she was also recognized and respected among her peers. She was one of the founding members of the Chinese Co-Worker Council in the Metro New York Area; a founding member of a choral society in Chinatown; a gifted preacher and teacher; and, she was involved in the American Baptist Churches of Metro New York and the Asian Caucus of American Baptist Churches in the USA. Rev. Marie Ho-Lam was a loving mother and grandmother and her tender heart touched many both here and abroad. She is survived by four sons (Daniel, William, Stephen, and Benjamin), four grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews and friends. |
